Emma G. Maatman was raised in central Pennsylvania, surrounded by trees, dirt, and antique stores. After a brief stint in the architecture program at the University of Cincinnati, she moved to Baltimore, where she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art. See graduated in 2011 with a BFA in Illustration.

Her work is inspired by punk rock and heavy metal, the thick, opaque, but imperfect qualities a screenprint, saturated color, brut folk-art sensibility, and the technical aspects of architecture. Emma’s art has been shown in galleries, printed on product labels, clothing, record covers and magazines.  She was honored by the Society of Illustrators when two of her works were selected for the 2011 student show.

Emma currently resides in Los Angeles.  When not drawing, she spends her time expanding her record collection, pursuing amateur taxidermy and jewelry making, and teaching her cat to walk on a leash.
